Trina solar’s first solar plant in South Korea begins production
2020.12.25

On December 24, 2020, Trina Solar’s first solar plant in South Korea began commercial operation. Jincheon solar plant, the 500kW installation is expected to generate around 700MWh of safe and clean electricity per year capable of powering more than 1,000 local homes. Considering the local resource and conditions, the solar plant system adopts Trina Solar’s bifacial-dual-glass modules to increase energy production.

The solar plant is located in Jincheon, a town in North Chungcheong province of central South Korea. North Chungcheong province is known in South Korea as “Land of life and the sun“, while Jincheon is famed as “City of Solar”, where a significant portion of local energy consumption is supplied by solar energy. In 2014, Jincheon was selected as a pilot area for eco-friendly energy town.

“Jincheon solar plant, our first project in South Korea, is an important milestone for us to do solar project development in South Korea. It is also the demonstration of great collaboration with our local partners.” Said Simon Li, President and General Manager of Asia Pacific Project Business Unit of Trina Solar. “In October of this year, South Korea became the third Asian country to commit to achieving Net-Zero Emissions by 2050, following China and Japan, which essentially means  ‘replacing coal power generation with renewable energy’  to reach the Net-Zero target. Trina Solar will accelerate the business of solar project development in South Korea combining our technology and know-how of project development, financing, construction, operation, and continuously bring clean energy to local communities.”
